Datamation NetSafe for iPads

iPad Storage
store and charge 20 ipads

The new NetSAFE-IPC is the first table-top cabinet that can store and charge up to 20 iPads and a MacBook as well. (16 in most standard cases)

Safe and Secure: Secure and compact, this cabinet is perfect for classrooms, libraries and training facilities where multiple iPads have to be protected and charged.

The Netsafe-IPC plugs into standard wall outlets. If you keep your iPads in cases, the cabinet dividers can be adjusted. Even the thickest cases have seen will allow the storage of 16 iPads.Dimensions 17"H x 21" W x 19"D

Sync and Charge:  NETSAFE IPCS
The challenge in creating a sync and charge solution is that the iPad is designed to re-charge through the same USB port as is used to sync to iTunes, but the two functions use different power settings.

Charging requires: 5V at 2 amps
A full charge cycle is recommended once monthly to increase battery life.

Sync can be accomplished:  5V at 0.5 amps

Traditional USB-hubs do not provide enough power to both charge and sync.

The  Netsafe-IPCS will have a power selector switch: One low power for daily sync and a high power setting for recharging.

More models coming: Models handling 32 and 40 iPads in mobile carts are also being developed.

Using a MacBook, iPad users can simultaneously sync 16 iPads with iTunes or recharge multiple iPads, all in the same cabinet.  (Using a Windows PC, iTunes is limited to recognizing seven devices at a time.)

Sustainable: The design of the  Netsafe-IPC takes sustainability seriously. It uses the cables and accessories provided by Apple, preventing waste and keeping down the cost of the cabinets. It uses recycled material wherever possible and is made with environmentally friendly processes. It is durable and adjustable, so it can be adapted to new technology requirements and lasts a long time.

The small size of the  Netsafe-IPC is a great advantage, especially in classrooms in which real estate is at a valuable premium. Carts and cabinets designed for larger notebook computers just don’t make the best use of the small size and design of the iPad. The ePadSAFE-IP does.  And the  Netsafe-IPC has a simple, innovative cable management system for easy set-up and easy use.

The DS-NETSAFE-IPCS and other Datamation Systems iPad syncing products use state-of-the-art Cambrionix USB hubs to permit communication between a host computer (MacBook, etc.) and multiple iPads or other USB devices. Using appropriate software programs (iTunes is an example), you can sync your devices or copy files to and from them.

When Apple releases new versions of the iPad, the  Netsafe-IPC will be able to accommodate almost any change.

Tech Data:

Data transfer speeds for syncing:  Cambrionix performed tests on the C3 board to see how quickly it can simultaneously sync 16 devices.  They calculate that it takes approximately 5.3 minutes to transfer a one gigabyte video file to 16 iPads.  For a full report of their test, their assumptions and equipment used, please look at this PDF.  Cambrionix C3 Benchmark Testing

Charging speeds for iPads:  We ran some tests, charging iPads that had been completely depleted, to see how long various methods took to re-charge them from 100% empty to 100% full.

We found the following:

bulletUSB port 2.0: On a desktop PC, it took 13 hours 30 minutes to charge a single iPad through the trickle charge on the USB port. The iPad does not display that the unit is charging We have heard that this can take longer if it is done on a computer or notebook that goes into sleep mode.

On some multi-USB hubs (even powered hubs), the USB charge shares the available power supply and would take even longer. On one 24-port hub we reviewed, the unit had a 22.5W power supply which gives less than 200mA per port so trickle charging would take more than twice as long as even the worst PC port. If the iPad is used daily for a few hours, the net charge in the iPad (if charged on this hub each evening) would go down.

bulletPlugged into the Cambrionix C2 USB board:   This is the sync-and-charge device used within the Datamation Systems cabinets and carts. A complete empty-to-charged cycle took 4 hours, 35 minutes. According to Cambrionix, the charging time is the same as it is using the charging block supplied with the iPad itself. This would be the time required whether you are re-charging one or 16 iPads, as each port is provided with the full power required.
